The 2014 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee has named a winner: Santa Barbara Catholic School sixth grader Ron Rocky Coloma.
Coloma won the competition when he spelled the word “pastiche” correctly.
Coloma was one of 56 students from across the region competing for the win earlier today at the LeoPalace Resort Hotel Belvedere.
Coloma will represent Guam during the national competition in Washington, D.C., where he will represent Guam in the 87th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee scheduled for May 25.
There were originally 57 students scheduled to compete, but one school wasn’t able to send their representative, leaving a total of 56 spellers.
