Hafa Adai!

It gives me great joy to welcome you to the school community of Santa Barbara Catholic School and to our official web site!

Being a Catholic School, I believe that the focus of our mission is holistic education. Thus, all of us at Santa Barbara Catholic School strive to offer our students the best educational opportunities possible while at the same time instilling in them Catholic Christian values which will help them become better persons.

We cater to a multicultural mix of Chamorros, Filipinos, Pacific Islanders, and other ethnic races. This unique reality has promoted a community or family spirit in our school. We also appreciate the active involvement of our parents in the educational development of their children.

From our humble beginnings in 1950, we have grown to be one of the best private schools on Guam. In school year 2012-2013, our school underwent its sixth re-accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and Western Catholic Educational Associtiona (WCEA) and successfully received another full six year term.

At Santa Barbara Catholic School we remain committed to our mission of excellence in education and the total development of the person.

I hope that your visit to our website will be informative and enjoyable. Please know that we would be pleased to welcome you to our campus as well.

Thank you. Maraming Salamat po. Si Yu’os Maa’se!

Memo and Welcome Letter from our Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to school year 2013-2014! I am happy to welcome more than 400 students back to school to be educated in the tradition and values of the Sisters of Mercy. I welcome in a special way all the new students and their families who are joining our school family.

This school year, we are implementing the following changes in our policies. Please be guided accordingly:

  1. To ensure the safety and security of your child while he/she is in school, we are going to lock the McAuley Hall gate (Admin building), West gate (by the Music Room) and East Gate (by the Science Lab) everyday, from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM. This policy will take into effect starting Monday, August 12, 2013. Parents who need to come to the school during school hours are requested to use the South Gate which will remain unlocked throughout the day. Please take note that the South Gate is our main drop off and pick up point for all students.

  2. As part of our Going Green initiative to take care of the environment and to cut down on the use of disposables in our school, we are launching our BYOU campaign (Bring Your Own Utensils) this school year. While the cafeteria will provide non-disposable utensils to all students who purchase their snacks and/or lunch from the school, students who bring their own snacks and lunch are asked to bring their own utensils and napkins. We will continue our educational campaign by asking you to continue to support the iRecycle program in the school. A project of the Student Council, the school promotes aluminum recycling by collecting aluminum cans (either brought from home or collected in school). The school is able to generate extra money based on the quantity of aluminum cans we have collected. We are also training our students to throw their trash in designated trash bins. (see picture below.)

We understand that it will take some small effort and a change in habits but every little effort counts towards taking care of the earth. Thank you in advance for your support in our Going Green initiative.

Friday, August 16, is our back-to-school night. During this important gathering, you will have the opportunity to meet with all your child’s teachers, fellow parents, and receive more information about your child’s education. I hope to see you all on that night. The meeting will begin promptly at 6:00 PM in the Petrie Gym.

Once again, welcome back to school. I look forward to an exciting and wonderful year with your child.

Sincerely in Christ,

Sr. Jeanette Marie Pangelinan, RSM
