Mojas recently relocated from Ateneo de Manila University in Manila, Philippines to Guam and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.

“Everything happened so quickly once I completed the application and interview process with the school over the summer. Within the week I was on a plane heading to Guam to start working,” said Mojas.

Mojas taught physical education and coached middle school basketball and track and field during his employment at Ateneo.

“Being here on Guam means learning and adjusting with the Spartan curriculum and sports program,” said Mojas. He added that learning and working under basketball head coaches Roger Ramos and Julito Tingson has been great for him.

Tingson recognizes Mojas’ ability to elevate the basketball program at Santa Barbara and welcomes the additional workouts and training introduced to the program.

“We are a developing team this year and our goal is to teach the fundamentals to the players,” said Tingson.

Pulling it all together is the support from the players’ parents, who share their passion for the team, attending games and cheering on their squad.

“It’s great to see the parents out in the stands supporting the kids,” said Tingson.

Who are the Spartans of 2011? The roster includes Arvin Flores, Luke Fernandez, Ray Gudmalin, Jeffrey Ochavillo, Jason Onedera, Joshua Tingson, Justin Igros, Justin Balicha, Darran Castro, Yuji Conales, Gionn Buenavido, Chino Cruz, Ryan Villanueva and Jeb Eugenio.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK CONTEST WINNER!

by SchoolOne on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 4:13am

We’re pleased to announce that our friends at Santa Barbara Catholic School in Dededo, Guam, are the recipients of a $500 technology award from SchoolOne. Santa Barbara was the clear winner in our Catholic Schools Week giveaway that promised to reward the school with the most posts on our SchoolOne Facebook page.

Santa Barbara Catholic School met us at the National Catholic Education Association conference in Minneapolis last April. We added their school to our mailing list; they received our contest announcement, and they took advantage of social networking to promote the contest. Announcements on twitter and the school’s Facebook page helped put Santa Barbara ahead of the competition. Congratulations to Santa Barbara Catholic School for their exceptional use of technology to win a technology prize!

In what turned out to be the “Battle of California,” St. Felicitas School in San Leandro came in second place, and St. Lawrence School in Santa Clara came in third. In fourth place, and the school who gets our thumbs up for the most enthusiastic comments, was St. Perpetua School in Lafayette.

Congratulations and thanks to all of the schools that participated. It’s evident that all of the schools participating have strong support from their staff and families.

SchoolOne is committed to supporting Catholic education through its web-based Student Information System (SIS) and IT services to K-12 schools. The SIS allows 24/7 access for staff, parents, and students to school information and student progress. The SIS also is integrated with ActivProgress, a data management and social learning system, and partners with mobile learning platform Studywiz. Santa Barbara Faculty and Staff Renew Mind, Heart and Spirit

Santa Barbara Catholic School (SBCS) held its annual retreat to start off their celebration of Catholic Schools Week at the Carmel on the Hill Retreat Center in Malojloj last Saturday, January 29, 2011. With the theme “The Courage to Teach: Educating Mind, Heart and Spirit,” keynote speaker and retreat facilitator Fr. Dan Ferrandiz focused on the importance of re-examining and reinforcing the Catholicity of the school as well as of the faculty, staff and administrators. Sharing from his own personal experiences as a former high school principal himself, Fr. Ferrandiz encouraged the retreatants to reflect on their leadership or teaching style and be keenly aware of its effect on others. Fr. Ferrandiz, also discussed the invitation to servant leadership and guided everyone in a meaningful reflection process on the challenges of true discipleship. The retreat concluded with the celebration of the Eucharistic at the San Isidro Parish church, adjacent to the retreat center.

The SBCS faculty and staff appreciated the wonderful opportunity to spend a day in prayer, reflection, laughter, and fellowship outside the school’s Dededo campus. They enjoyed Fr. Ferrandiz’s witty and spontaneous quips as well as his sense of humor in getting his message across. Indeed, everyone felt renewed in mind, heart and spirit at the end of the blessed-filled day.
