Suicide Prevention/Olweus

On Monday September 12, 2016, the students of SBCS started the Olweus Bullying Prevention program. Now on its 3rd year of implementation as part of the school’s curricuum, The Olweus Bullying Prevention Program is designed to improve peer relations and make the school safer, and a more positive place for students to learn and develop.
Goals of the program include:

  • Reducing existing bullying problems among students
  • Preventing the development of new bullying problems
  • Achieving better peer relations at school

In addition to the Olweus program, the 8th grade students also attended a session with Mrs. Marie Halloran, founder of Life Works Guam who spoke to them about suicide awareness and prevention. Mrs. Halloran discussed the following topics with the students: suicide awareness, prevention, intervention, postvention, and advocacy to help decrease the risk of suicide in our island.
